The added volume of lean trim to our supply is relatively small, about 1-2%, and not enough to reshape the market. That added volume isn’t the real issue. The larger concern is that decisions like this feel like short-term patches, while the deeper challenges facing American cattle producers go unaddressed. Over the past several decades, corporate consolidation in meatpacking and processing has left ranchers with fewer buyers, less bargaining power, and tighter margins. When only a handful of companies control most of the market, families on the ground feel it first - whether prices are high or low. That’s the problem that deserves our full attention.
